Ahoj travelers! Welcome to my mini guide on Cesky Krumlov – an incredibly picturesque, UNESCO-listed town just three hours by train from Prague in Czech Republic. I was born in Prague and have been living here all my life. My hobbies changed a lot, especially when I started studying. I was into math and computers, but this all changed when I completed my studies.
My desire to explore new places became greater. Later on, I also bought a professional camera and began taking photos. For a couple of years, I was mostly capturing people. However, after some time, I ended up focusing on travel photography. I don’t use my professional camera anymore because I believe the best camera is the one that is with you. That is why I now use my iPhone. It’s very convenient and the quality is still fantastic.
Two years ago, I created an Instagram profile called Czech Guide where I post travel tips about my country. Czech Guide is even on YouTube these days – feel free to subscribe. I love exploring my homeland. While Prague is wonderful, there are so many more interesting places to visit like the second most popular destination in the country: Cesky Krumlov. I have visited this town a few times and I will never forget my first trip there.
It was on a canoe trip with my schoolmates. When you are in the town, you can always see people in canoes. This is a popular activity in our country. Cesky Krumlov is a small town located in the south. It’s known for its Historic Center with well-preserved architecture. The center is a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site. I think this place is hard to describe in words but if you see my photos, they will definitely convince you to come.
Best Things To Do in Cesky Krumlov
My favorite spot in Cesky Krumlov is the State Castle in the center. It sits on a hill and provides amazing views of the town. Most of my best photos of this destination have been taken here. Visiting the castle is the first thing you should do when you arrive. From there, you can enjoy the beautiful views and if you are lucky, see the bears in the castle moat. Yes, you read that right, bears. Bear-keeping at the castle dates back to the 16th century.
The castle also boasts a fascinating garden. If you go there, you will see a unique open-air theater with a revolving auditorium. The town center, in general, has lovely streets which you can walk around. I love strolling them. Other activities include visiting the museums or taking a special canoe trip. There are many rental services in town where you can pick up a canoe/raft.
Need to Know Before you Go
I have never stayed overnight in Cesky Krumlov. The Historic Center is not that big – so if you are just interested in Cesky Krumlov, one day is enough. Our country is small and you can easily visit other cities by train and return back on the same day. For those determined to stay overnight, you could also spend your time in other nearby places like Ceske Budejovice and Hluboka nad Vltavou. I’m sure you will fall in love with these towns as well.
Food in Cesky Krumlov is the same as Czech Republic as a whole. When visiting, I recommend that you avoid touristy restaurants and try to find smaller eateries which have more authentic experiences. Anyone who visits Czechia for at least a couple of days has to put Cesky Krumlov on their itinerary. It’s different from Prague and you will have a good time. Getting there is easy – book a train and you will be there in about three hours.
