Hello travellers! My name is Teru Menclova from the Instagram profile: @terumenclova. Welcome to my short and sweet guide on Lake Bled in Slovenia. I grew up in a little town located in the north of Czech Republic.
Half of my family comes from a mountain area. Therefore, I have been close to nature since I was a kid. Nature was the first thing that really inspired me to pursue my photography career. I remember wanting to freeze in time all the beautiful moments and places I had visited and seen.
And there is probably no place in the world more beautiful than Lake Bled. I have been there three times and it’s always a pleasure to go back. Even though it’s touristy, you can still find some quiet corners where you can contemplate the beauty of this place. Lake Bled is just so picturesque with the church in the middle of the lake and mountains in the background.
Favourite Place in Lake Bled: Mala Osojnica
My favourite viewpoint is Mala Osojnica. No surprises there I guess! I have visited twice to shoot the sunrise and it was breathtaking. Besides, if you go to Mala Osojnica in the morning, there is a big change you will have this popular place all to yourself. That’s something I always enjoy.
Best Things To Do in and around Lake Bled
The first thing that visitors to Lake Bled should experience is climbing up to Mala Osojnica for sunrise. Make sure you wake up early for this incredible viewpoint. Then I would recommend renting a bike in the town and doing a round trip around the lake and its enchanting natural surroundings.
One of my best memories of Lake Bled was when I went riding around the lake by bike and felt incredibly happy. It was a beautiful day at the end of July, the sun was shining and everyone around me was having a good time.
Soteska Vintgar (also known as Bled Gorge) is worth a visit too. But it can get crowded during the high season. Therefore, I would opt for going either early in the morning or later in the afternoon. Hiking is another must-do around Lake Bled – especially to Stol Mountain and Radovna Valley.
Exploring more of the Spectacular Slovenia
While Lake Bled is one of the top attractions of Slovenia there is still so much more to see. All of Slovenia is beautiful. My favourite part is Triglav National Park. Mangart, Bohink and Krajnska Gora are the best spots in the park. I plan on doing the Triglav mountain summit one day!
What you Need to Know Before you Go
When visiting Lake Bled I recommend staying at Hostel Bledec. My stay there was very pleasant. The rooms were clean and the staff were nice. Besides that, I can also suggest the local campsite called Camping Bled.
Make sure you pack proper hiking gear for the walks such as quality outdoor clothing and hiking boots. The weather and terrain in the mountains can get tricky. That is why it’s important to have good equipment. My last piece of advice – enjoy this beautiful place!
