I’m Martina Aiello – a 26 year old girl from Northern Italy. To put it precisely, I come from Treviso which is a city not far from the most famous Italian city of Venice. Thanks for stopping by my article on the lovely Ljubljana!
I have loved traveling and photography since I was a child. As a kid, I used hundreds of disposable cameras and captured everything I could. Luckily I had amazing places to snap photos because my parents moved around a lot. Travel has always been a massive part of my life, even if it was only a short day trip. This wanderlust passion only gets bigger the older I get.
A Wonderful Weekend in Slovenia
With the arrival of the pandemic in 2020, I started utilizing social media more and after the lockdown I had the opportunity to explore Italy. I shared my travels on Instagram and received some fantastic appreciation. Slowly my following has grown, hence the inspiration to turn it into a job. I also took several courses and practiced what I learnt with first-hand experience.
Slovenia was a country I wanted to visit since I was looking for a destination to discover outside of Italy. But I only had one weekend available and Slovenia’s location nearby made it the perfect choice. It has many beautiful places to visit. In total, I just spent three days there. Yet I had the chance to go from the hinterland to the coast. The main spots I saw were the Predjama Castle, Kropa, Lake Bled, Izola and the capital city of Ljubljana.
Why Ljubljana is Worth Visiting
Ljubljana immediately made an impression on me: the city is well-preserved, clean and safe, and environmentally friendly. Due to my time constraints, the trip to the Slovenian capital was a short one – half a day. Travelers would need at least a full day, or preferably two days, to see it all.
I spent my time walking around the city and visited the most popular places like the Dragon Bridge and Central Market. My favorite place was definitely the Butchers’ Bridge. Here you can find thousands of lovers’ locks. It’s incredibly romantic and special. The locals of Ljubljana were also nice and always greeted me with a smile. And the food was surprisingly good – I had lunch at Pop’s Place and ordered a burger. Highly recommended!
7 Best Places to Visit in Ljubljana
The best way to get around is either on foot or by bike. There are other ways to travel, such as the boat rides on the river or the new ecological train. However, walking or cycling is still the preferred option. You can buy the Ljubljana Card if you would like and enjoy access to all the attractions – plus unlimited use of the transport and a guided tour of the city. The places that I recommend, whether you come for a day or a week, are the following:
- Tivoli Park
- Town Square
- Dragon Bridge
- Central Market
- Ljubljana Castle
- Butchers’ Bridge
- The National and University Library
