Although this location had been on our bucket list for quite some time, we actually planned our trip to Lake Powell pretty last minute. We ended up staying at the Amangiri Resort in Canyon Point, Utah and had the amazing experience of boating on Lake Powell for the day with our guide David.
Since my family and I traveled to Lake Powell in winter, the only thing we were able to do was go on a boat tour. It was absolutely amazing and I do not regret going that time of year at all. We had an awesome guide named David and his knowledge of Lake Powell was absolutely incredible.
I’m not exaggerating when I say Lake Powell looks like Mars. Every time we turned a different direction on the lake, I saw something new and was more in awe. The lake so beautifully captured the reflection of the rocks and the water was still even on a windy day. The best thing about that day trip was just the fact that I got to enjoy the lake with nobody else on it.
Even though it was windy, the lake was so still and peaceful. I think when people see exotic-looking locations, whether it be mountains or beaches, most people automatically think that it’s located outside of the US. Lake Powell and the surrounding area of Canyon Point, Utah and Page, Arizona prove that common narrative wrong. We have beautiful places in our country, even in the middle of land with no ocean surrounding.
Staying at the Beautiful Amangiri Resort
We loved our stay at the Amangiri Resort. In all honesty, we first wanted to relax at Amangiri, then we saw the amazing landscape of the surrounding areas and knew we had to spend a day boating around Lake Powell as part of our trip. I would absolutely recommend staying at Amangiri.
Not only are the aesthetics amazing, but the service was incredible and the staff were some of the kindest I have ever met. The location of the house we stayed in at Amangiri was phenomenal. Our house backed into the rocks and it was an unbelievable view to wake up to every morning.
It was genuinely one of my top five favorite trips I have ever been on and I have had the opportunity of visiting all 50 states and state capitol buildings as well as traveling around the world. There is something so unique about this area, and it’s a place that everyone should put on their bucket list.
I enjoyed all of the activities we did at Amangiri. Although Lake Powell was my favorite, hiking the Via Ferrata and having the chance to rock climb up the Voodoo Trail along with walking across suspension bridges 300-450 feet up in the air was an experience that I will never forget.
Tips for Visiting Amangiri & Lake Powell
I would definitely recommend staying at Amangiri. This resort was genuinely unlike any other place I have ever been to. It’s minimalistic yet luxurious and every staff member went out of their way to make sure you were happy. All of the activities that this resort offered were so much fun.
Although rock climbing on the Voodoo Trail to see Via Feratta was out of my comfort zone, it had to be one of my favorite activities besides Lake Powell. I do not regret going during this time of year, but when I go back I will definitely go in the late summer/early fall period like September.
During that time of year, you would get the opportunity to experience hiking in amazing weather as well as getting to do more adventurous activities on the lake. Overall, I recommend Amangiri and Lake Powell to anyone. It’s a bucket list trip and you should definitely go if you get the chance. I have been blessed with the opportunity to travel to all 50 states and capitol buildings, and this was genuinely one of my favorite trips ever!
