Exploring France Beyond Paris

Travel Tips

When you think of France, it is likely the iconic Eiffel Tower or the artistic treasure trove that is the Louvre that comes to mind. However, having visited the country a few times, there’s so much more to explore, taste, and enjoy.

Before I tell you all about my favorite spots in France, you need to know that there’s a new entry requirement: ETIAS – the electronic travel authorization designed to ensure secure borders while facilitating smoother processes. The ETIAS to travel France will be available in 2024, and you can get it through an online application.

The electronic permit also grants entry to the rest of the Schengen Area. Just make sure you have a valid passport for your trip.

Favorite Spots in France

France is a country rich with varied landscapes, gourmet cuisines, and deep-seated history that stretches far beyond Paris. Of course, if you’ve never been to Paris, then at least go see the place for a day.

Let me guide you on a journey through the gems that grace this country, giving you an intimate look at the charming streets of Lyon and the lavender fields of Provence.

Walk through Vieux Lyon’s traboules, where secrets of the city’s silk production past are hidden in passageways that tell tales of the Renaissance era. Rent a Car to Make the Most of Your Visit

If you want to explore different areas of the country, consider renting a car. Major airports and cities have car rental services. Booking in advance online can fetch you better deals. Be prepared with your driver’s license and a credit card for the deposit under the same name.

The speed limit in cities is generally 50 km/h, and on highways, it’s between 110 km/h and 130 km/h. Seat belts are mandatory, and your mobile phone can only be used with a hands-free system.

Many cities offer paid parking zones, clearly indicated with blue signs. Always carry coins or a card for parking meter payments.
