Travel Tips

So you’ve bought your RV. You’ve found the perfect place for your first campervan trip. You’re pretty excited to get going, but first you need to do your final bit of preparation. That’s right – packing for the trip.

It can often be hard to find the right resource for building and living in your RV, especially when there’s so much information out there. Likewise, it can be a challenge to know exactly what to pack for a campervan trip. You can’t pack too much since you’re limited on space, but failing to bring key items can cause your trip to be a complete disaster. Thankfully, we’re here to help you out. Here are the key things that you need to pack for your campervan trip.

Pack Campervan

Sleeping Gear

Do you want to know a surefire way to ruin your campervan trip? That’s right – poor sleep. That’s why it’s so important to ensure that you have the right sleeping gear for your trip. You want those forty winks, after all!

The first and most obvious thing that you need is a mattress. This shouldn’t be an issue if there are already beds inside of your campervan, but if you’re hoping to do a little camping out under the stars then you may find an inflatable air mattress helpful.

Likewise, you need something that will keep you warm so make sure that you grab a sleeping bag for each person that will be going with you. A pillow may also be helpful for you.

Electronic Items

Most electronic devices like your phone or tablet don’t run on fresh air, so you will need to ensure that you bring chargers with you. It’s worthwhile to bring chargers that you plug directly into the wall, but also to bring portable chargers too. Make sure that you bring batteries, cameras and anything else that you need too in order to keep all of your devices running.

Cooking Gear

Theoretically you could go out for meals when you are in your campervan but that can get pretty expensive if you’re on a longer trip. With that in mind, it’s a good idea to make sure that you have food supplies and cooking utensils available.

For food, it’s a good idea to make sure that you bring things that are fairly easy to cook, such as dry noodles, pasta, beans and stock cubes. If you have any particular meals in mind that you want to make then it’s a good idea to grab the ingredients for those meals before you depart. It’s also worth bringing some snacks along – you never know when you’ll feel unexpectedly peckish.

Of course, you can’t actually cook any of that food if you don’t have anything to cook with. Many RVs will come with built-in stove units, though it may be worthwhile to bring a portable stove unit in case the power goes out unexpectedly. You will also need to get utensils and other gear like pots and pans, chopping boards, cutlery and more. Think about the things that you usually use to cook in the house and make sure that you have that in your home. You will also need bowls, plates and other things to eat off.

Clothing

Our society isn’t exactly accepting of people running around without clothing, so you’ll want to ensure that you pack plenty of clothing for your trip too. Pack for the cold weather if it’s going to be chilly, but make sure that you have some lighter clothing if it’s going to be hot. Thermal layers are very useful if you are going to be taking your trip during the colder months of the year.

Clothes

First Aid Kit

Nobody wants to think about accidents when they are going on a trip, but it’s important that you are always prepared for the worst case scenario so you aren’t caught out if it actually happens. Make sure that you have a fully stocked first aid kit full of band aids, gauzes, scissors and more. You can often find pre-packed first aid kits full of exactly what you will need for a camping trip.

Lighting

Bring some torches with you if you’re going on a campervan trip. This is handy just in case you are venturing out when it’s dark outside, since you will want to be able to see where you are going.
