Spending a night in the famous Skylodge Adventure Suites in Peru’s Sacred Valley is an experience unlike any other. To reach these transparent capsules you have to climb up the side of a mountain and then afterwards you need to zipline back down. The whole experience is just so much fun!
I recently had the pleasure of staying here with my husband to celebrate his 30th birthday. We wanted to do something epic and this place is about as epic as it gets. The views from the pods were unbelievable and we were stoked to find that the rooms came with hot water for tea/coffee and even wine. We definitely needed a glass of wine after climbing all the way up!
In this article, I will be covering everything you need to know about this accommodation and providing you with some tips for your stay. Hopefully, by the end of this blog post, you will be adding Skylodge Adventure Suites to your bucket list. Before I get started though, let me tell you a little bit about myself and give you some background to our trip to Peru.
My name is Lianna. I was born in Cuba but grew up in Miami, Florida. Unlike my parents, I have had many opportunities in life because I grew up in the United States. One of those opportunities has been the chance to travel.
And that is something that I never have and never will take for granted. My parents won’t let me forget that either. To this very day, my family always encourages me to travel and explore the world. I plan on doing just that.
My husband and I now have a list of countries we want to visit. Peru was at the top of our list. Home to wonders of the world and ceviche – how could we not visit?! I also have friends who have visited and they recommended that I go. Unfortunately, our original trip to Peru was canceled because of the pandemic. But this year we were finally able to go there!
We spent nine days in Peru. Our first stop was Lima and then we explored the coast and the desert – Paracas and Huacachina. Then we flew to Cusco where we spent the rest of our days. We visited Machu Picchu, the Sacred Valley, Rainbow Mountain and, of course, the famous city of Cusco.
Our Experience at Skylodge Adventure Suites
We first found out about Skylodge Adventure Suites through YouTube. As passionate travelers, we tend to watch a lot of travel vlogs on that platform and there was one that stood out to us. It was about a couple who had an adventure at Skylodge. My husband, right there and then, decided that we needed to stay at this accommodation. It was added to our bucket list!
The start of the journey is climbing up 400 metres of Via Ferrata. You will be attached to safety wires the entire way. The climb took us an hour and 45 minutes, but it wasn’t difficult and there were guides with us.
However, if you are afraid of heights, then it would be scary. When we reached the top it was a big sense of accomplishment. We enjoyed a delicious meal with wine and bonded with other couples and our guides.
Sleeping in Luxury Transparent Capsules
The capsules/pods that you stay in are quite big. They fit up to four people and come equipped with a queen bed and two twin beds. There is also a bathroom, and a dry system which the guides will explain more about.
There is also portable water for you to drink and brush your teeth with. One of the pods hanging on the side of the mountain is where you go to have breakfast and dinner, all prepared by the guides. They also offer you some wine. We were given a small bottle each which was such a nice touch.
The night we spent in the capsule was on a windy night, but the pods are sturdy and can withstand wind. Our pod didn’t move once and we felt safe. The rooms come with curtains that you can adjust if you want to get a better view of the valley with the stars. We were woken up once by the brightness of the moon but we went right back to sleep in our comfy beds.
Tips for Staying at Skylodge Adventure Suites
I would suggest not doing anything too strenuous the same morning before pick up or the day before. A good night’s sleep will help you prepare for the climb. You can climb up with a backpack and some essentials.
Make sure you bring a water bottle – which can be refilled at the base camp. My biggest recommendation is to take hiking shoes with good grip. This will help so much. Apart from those things, just enjoy your experience at this unique place. Hands down, it was a 10/10 experience for us!
