Welcome to my blog on the world’s most epic beach in Zakynthos: Navagio “Shipwreck” Beach. My name is Marcel Bech and I grew up in Germany, near Stuttgart to be exact. I have always had the desire to travel the world and gather new experiences, as well as getting to know other cultures.
The reason I spent my vacation time in Zakynthos recently was because of a recommendation from a colleague at work. I familiarized myself intensively with the island before booking and planned my trip bit by bit. We spent a total of seven days on the island and rented a quad bike, so we could cruise around the island and park almost anywhere we wanted to.
Some of the most beautiful places on the island of Zakynthos to me were the Blue Caves on the upper tip and Porto Limnionas Beach. But the number one highlight, of course, was getting to visit the world-famous Navagio “Shipwreck” Beach. We visited this beach on two occasions.
Magical Trips to Navagio “Shipwreck” Beach
On the first day, we rented a boat at Paralia Porto Vromi for three hours, which cost us 120€. With it we went to Navagio and dropped the anchor. Then I swam from the boat to the beach and walked up to the shipwreck. That was such a magical moment and it was absolutely beautiful! We spent at least an hour there swimming in the perfect turquoise waters.
The next day, we visited the Shipwreck Navagio Beach Viewpoint. There is a parking lot nearby and the rest you have to walk for about 10 minutes. The walk was definitely worth it for the breathtaking view on offer! Everyone who visits Zakynthos should visit both the beach and the viewpoint.
Favorite Memory at the World-Famous Beach
My favorite memory of Navagio “Shipwreck” Beach was jumping off the boat into the turquoise waters and swimming to the beach. The beach has these small round pebbles which are very nice to walk on. When I saw the rusty old ship and touched it, while learning the story behind it, well – that was just a magical moment that I will cherish for the rest of my life.
Review of Gloria Maris Hotel in Zakynthos
Our hotel was located near Laganas and was a bit remote. It was called Gloria Maris Hotel. I recommend it if you book at least an executive room. For us, it was important to be mobile to explore, so in advance we booked a quad bike online which was made available to us as soon as we arrived.
The Gloria Maris Hotel offers delicious food, a fantastic beach bar and a hotel boat rental with which you can explore the southern part of the island and also head out to Marathonisi (Turtle Island). With the boat, we also had the chance to visit the Keri Caves, Cameo Island and see turtles.
Tips for Visiting Navagio “Shipwreck” Beach
Here are some important tips for your visit to Navagio “Shipwreck” Beach. First of all, you can only reach the beach by boat and you have to expect that it will be very busy. The beach is the main attraction of the island after all. If you want to visit without the crowds, head there early in the morning or in the late afternoon/evening as there are no big boat tours coming then.
For the Shipwreck Navagio Beach Viewpoint, be careful when you are up there! Some people have even died after trying to take a selfie and sitting too close to the edge of the cliff. So my advice is to enjoy it but be careful!
