Pat always knew he wanted to be a trader. Right out of college he took a job as a pit reporter at the Minneapolis Grain Exchange. He worked his way up to head clerk, then broker for a trading firm there. After just a couple of years he began trading on his own, then quickly moved to Chicago to trade stocks at the Board of Trade. Still in his twenties he took off to sail around the world.
On that trip he and his wife decided they didn’t ever want to return to “normal” life, so he began to trade stocks online in order to continue funding his travels. Over the years he began to get questions from those that followed his travel blog, wondering how he managed to afford to travel like this.
He wrote a book to answer those questions. That led to more questions about trading, so he started offering to teach people to trade. Years later, Wanderer Financial has grown into what it is today – a gathering place for people who want to learn about trading and finance so they can have the financial freedom needed to make their traveling dreams come true.
Lorin is the other founder of Wanderer. He bought his first stock in May of 1996. Oddly enough, it was news of a plane crash that caused him to make his first stock purchase. Before that, he had read books on investing, and learned that the trick was to buy low and sell high. Thinking the crash was an opportunity to buy low, he called his broker and made his first purchase. He’s been hooked on the machinations of the stock market ever since.
Learn to Trade Stocks with Wanderer Financial
Basic financial education is something our public school system is woefully under preparing our kids for. We know from personal experience that learning a few basic fundamentals on risk management and how money works can go a long way towards reaching our personal financial goals.
Here at Wanderer Financial, we aim to provide our subscribers with the tools needed to spot opportunity, identify risk and properly diversify their investment dollars. A benefit of learning these basic fundamentals is that they wind up with an income stream and the opportunity to travel the world, because trading and investing can be done from anywhere.
Learning how to buy or sell a stock can be learned with us in mere minutes. But proper investing, with risk protocols in place and proper diversification of risk (both understood and implemented) can take some time, depending on the personal commitment.
Somebody who already has a sizable sum of money might want to fast track the learning process in order to avoid costly mistakes, while someone that is just beginning to build a portfolio might be less pressured to consume information at a rapid rate.
By the end of one year, without much of a time commitment, you will have learned enough to competently spot and manage opportunities, and you will have a much wider understanding of economics and the financial system in general.
The Type of People Suited to Trade Stocks
The great thing about trading is that it can be customized to suit a wide variety of personality types. At Wanderer Financial, we feature three separate portfolios with completely different characteristics. One provides income, another capital gains and still another long-term appreciation.
There isn’t a direct connection between level of intelligence and success in trading. We know people who have done very poorly in school only to excel at trading, and vice versa. Discipline to follow a trading system is important, and there is nobody to keep you on track but yourself.
What Makes Wanderer Financial Different
We feature three different portfolios with different investment criteria. We also host a daily chat group where we look at trade setups in real time, give trading advice, answer questions, and usually talk with everyone about all of our travels or anything else going on in our lives.
During the week we send out a list of stocks to watch that are stocks with trade setups that we like. We post at least one new article each week on our website with learning material. And finally, we have an update on Sunday that reviews the markets and provides our outlook on the future.
At Wanderer, we take the approach of teaching you to fish as opposed to selling you a fish. While we do provide real time updates on stock purchases in our three portfolios, we also teach you how to spot setups and calculate the risk/reward on them.
Most businesses in this sector tend to be either a signaling service, or they only provide market commentary. We try to bring the whole package together so that ultimately our subscribers are confident traders on their own.
What makes Wanderer unique is that people can follow Pat’s blog bumfuzzle.com and see first hand that he’s been out living this dream life for twenty years. He doesn’t just talk the talk like so many online “gurus”, he actually walks the walk. Another highlight is that Wanderer isn’t a place for people who want to get rich and buy Lamborghinis – it’s a place for people who want to live a life full of experiences, see the world and live simply.
Living a Life Full of New Travels & Experiences
Pat has sailed around the world, driven around most of it, and lived for the past twenty years as a nomad traveling either by boat or motorhome. He is currently living aboard a catamaran in Mexico with his wife and two kids and planning to set sail for the South Pacific a few months from now as we kick off our second circumnavigation.
Lorin has traveled extensively across Asia, Europe, and the Americas. He has family in Europe, many friends in China, and enjoys adventure motorcycling trips whenever he can, most recently exploring Baja Mexico. The people we’ve met and the opportunities we come across on our travels have helped shape who we are, and can also help guide us in our world market views.
Learning to Trade Stocks Requires Strategy
Trading is a matter of playing the odds. That means that a percentage of your trades will be wins and a percentage will be losses. New traders too often let their losses become large while only letting their wins be small. It takes experience to flip those two on their heads and create a winning strategy.
Following certain trading techniques can provide a profitable trading endeavor, but it still takes work to find the setups. At Wanderer, we scour hundreds of stocks every day to find the few that are worth trading. With our help you will be able to trade stocks and become a digital nomad in no time.
