We stayed for six days and it was just perfect! The trip consisted of visiting a collection of paradisiacal beaches, taking adventures, watching breathtaking sunsets and sunrises, and (deviating from the conventional Boipeba) celebrating end of year parties.
Boipeba is a travel destination suited for those who are looking for peace, calm and adventure. The pace of the place is very different to other parts of Brazil – ideal for people wanting to slow down. If you like this atmosphere, Boipeba should definitely be on your bucket list. You’ll be in Bahia, a very popular and famous state, but away from the obvious and crowded spots.
Praia da Cueira was one of my favorite places in Boipeba. I had many nice moments here – celebrating New Year’s and seeing sunrises that were so spectacular that it looked like it was painted. But to be honest, all of the beaches are stunning – cozy with huts and plenty of places to relax.
The beaches are extensive and (as a curious person) I recommend walking along them all, rather than just staying where all the people congregate. This way, I discovered corners that could only be described as hidden gems!

Accommodation in Boipeba
There are many accommodation options in Boipeba. I recommend the guesthouse I stayed at, Pousada Mare Alta. It couldn’t have been better! In addition to being a wonderful and welcoming environment, it has a fun and friendly host (an incredible guy) who helped us with lots of tips.
Getting to Boipeba from Salvador
From what I know, there are three ways to get to Boipeba – all starting from Salvador. One of them is by plane. You can also go by water on a speedboat or by taking various forms of transport. I got to Boipeba by taking a boat, a car and then another boat. On the way back, I used the speedboat straight to Salvador and thought it was less tiring.
Need to Know Before You Go
- Bring cash
- Don’t forget insect repellent and sunscreen
- Start your days early to see as many places as you can
- Ask the residents for tips – they know the best spots not found online
- Research prices so you don’t pay too much with transfer agencies. I had problems with this. If I could go again, I would buy tickets on my own.
- Getting around the island is done in three ways: by foot, with a quad bike or with a type of tractor that holds several people. Look for the walking trails if you want to avoid spending money on transport.
