The Canary Islands are situated off the coast of Africa and are home to eight incredible main islands: Tenerife, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, La Palma, La Gomera, La Graciosa and El Hierro. The biggest island in the archipelago is Tenerife – making it the perfect place to hire a boat and explore the beautiful bays, coves, beaches and islets on offer.
The variety of seascapes on the Tenerife coast are nothing short of spectacular. You can discover golden beaches, rock pools, epic diving and snorkeling spots, and jaw-dropping cliff faces – all while different species of whales and dolphins swim by. For these reasons, Tenerife is one of the best islands in the world to hire a boat and go exploring out on the water.
With the trade winds blowing through your hair and warm sunshine beating down, you will have the adventure of a lifetime on a private boat trip in Tenerife. Families, friends and couples will all thoroughly enjoy this experience. The team at Club Canary offer sailing yacht hires, luxury boat charters and catamaran rentals – and we highly recommend them all!
Tenerife Boat Hire with Club Canary
For those who don’t know, Club Canary is a 5-star rated tour company based in Tenerife. They provide amazing excursions on this Canary Island such as boat hire, whale watching tours and water sports. If you are looking to hire a boat for a group of friends or loved ones then the Sunset Cruise by Club Canary (their most popular private boat trip) is a wonderful option.
Departing from Puerto Colon, the Sunset Cruise will take your group on a romantic trip for four hours from 15:30 until 19:00. The model of the boat is called a Beneteau Cyclades 50.5 and it measures over 15 meters in length, making it the perfect vessel to take up to 10 people at the same time.
A professional crew onboard will take care of everything. All you need to do is watch out for whales and dolphins popping out of the water! These majestic creatures can be spotted between Tenerife and its neighboring island, La Gomera. After this enriching experience, your guide will take you to Palm Mar where you can swim and snorkel with sea turtles.
This is followed by dinner onboard which will be served by a waitress. Guests can choose between pizza, paella or sushi. So there are options for all dietary needs. Dinner will be served in a calm bay where beautiful views and good vibes are guaranteed. Then it’s time to catch the sunset!
Tenerife sunsets are beautiful and being out on the water on a boat takes that golden hour experience to another level. The trip finishes back at the harbour at Puerto Colon where the crew at Club Canary can drop you off back at your hotel if you are staying in the southern Tenerife area.
Snorkeling with Sea Turtles in Palm Mar
Whale watching and sunset gazing are two of the main highlights of Club Canary’s Sunset Cruise – you can read all about their whale watching tours here. But another major attraction of this trip is the visit to Palm Mar and the chance to snorkel with sea turtles. In fact, this is the only place to snorkel with sea turtles in Tenerife these days, unless you want to go diving.
The little village known as Palm Mar is situated between Los Cristianos and Las Galletas. The main beach here is called La Arenita Beach. Sea turtles tend to move around this area – so the best thing to do is to join a Tenerife boat tour (like the Sunset Cruise) and they can take you where the turtles go. As well as sea turtles, you will see fish, rays and maybe even dolphins!
The sea turtles have become accustomed to visitors over the years. Depths here drop to a maximum of 23 meters (15 meters is the average) and the turtles normally swim around the 8 meter mark – but they do surface and say hello to visitors. So this caters to both snorkelers and divers.
It’s important to respect these turtles as Tenerife has a history of problems with tourists engaging with the animals. This happened at a former turtle hotspot called El Puertito and now the turtles have been evacuated from that area. When snorkeling with turtles, please don’t touch the animals, feed them and definitely don’t litter. Respect their environment. This way everyone can enjoy snorkelling with sea turtles in Tenerife!
Luxury Boat Hire in Tenerife
As well as the Sunset Cruise, Club Canary have another dozen or so boat hire options in Tenerife. These range from sailing yachts to boat charters to catamarans. For example, if you love a bit of luxury, their “Tigresa” yacht can host up to 12 guests on a Azimut 60 Flybridge (year 2017 model).
The Tigresa is easily one of the most luxurious boat hires in all of the Canary Islands. Enjoy a lot of space onboard this vessel – 19.5 meter long boat – and cruise at fast speeds if needed with the use of the Tigresa’s 800hp engines. Luxury can be found throughout the entire boat from the rooms, to the bathrooms to the kitchen, TVs, outdoor decks and swimming platform.
Private tours on this boat can range from three hours to eight hours. The eight hour trip is a full-day experience exploring the beautiful waters around Tenerife. You can head to Los Gigantes with its incredible whale watching opportunities and massive cliff faces, and also venture out to the nearby island of La Gomera – which is a true gem of the Canary Islands.
Need to Know Before you Go
- Make sure you pack the right clothing, some sunscreen, any snacks and water (although drinks are provided on Club Canary boat trips) and maybe a lightweight jumper if you go cruising near sunset time.
- Don’t just limit yourself to boat hire trips and whale watching in Tenerife. This Canary Island offers so much. You should also trek up Mount Teide, discover the almond trees in Santiago del Teide, visit the Palmetum gardens of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and visit the Masca Valley.
- Give yourself at least 7-days to experience everything that Tenerife has to offer. You could even stay for 10 days or two weeks, but one week is the absolute minimum. You don’t want to miss out on the best spots!
