Karen Gutierrez is a textile artist and designer. After finishing her studies in Mexico, she lived in Oaxaca with indigenous communities to learn their sustainable approach in art such as textile and pottery. She was very interested in how people could live their lives with a slower rhythm full of simplicity and meaning. In 2013 she moved to Big Sur, California, USA to study permaculture and organic farming. When she came back to Mexico, she lived in a very small Mayan village called Macario GOmez with the indigenous community there, to better understand the way this side of Mexico applied sustainability into their lives. Since 2014 she has been living in Tulum, constantly traveling to different Mayan villages to connect with the women living there as well as with their talents and necessities to support them through her brand called Laguna Collective.
